Logansport Memorial Hospital is switching providers for its cardiology services.
The hospital signed a partnership agreement with Franciscan St. Elizabeth Health and Franciscan Physician Network for cardiology services, effective June 2.
LMH President and CEO David Ameen said the change came about in order to expand the hospital's cardiovascular services. The clinic won't change locations, he said, but it will be open more often — from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday instead of just a few days per week.
The clinic's specialists, Drs. Bassell Artin, Barry J. Karas and Adel S. Yaacoub will take turns being on call during the clinic's off-hours as well, he added.
"It's much better access for the community," Ameen said.
LMH's current cardiology provider, The Care Group, under Indianapolis-based St. Vincent Medical Group, could not expand office hours, Ameen said.
Both Franciscan St. Elizabeth Health and Franciscan Physician Network are members of Mishawaka-based Franciscan Alliance, one of the largest Catholic health care systems in the Midwest, according to a release from the hospital. The alliance also has offices in Monticello and operates two Lafayette hospitals.
LMH's five current cardiology doctors — Drs. Clifford Hallam, J. Stanley Hillis, Elaine Moen, Janet Rippy and Joseph Steinmetz — are all listed as affiliates of St. Vincent Medical Group on the LMH website.
Ameen said the change in medical providers was unrelated to the hospital's break with its former emergency room provider, which was also a St. Vincent affiliate. IPM-Logansport LLC, under the Indianapolis-based St. Vincent Emergency Physicians Inc., had been at Logansport Memorial Hospital's ER from 2011 until late 2013.
The Cardiovascular Clinic will be located in Suite 50 at Logansport Memorial Hospital.
