---- — PERU — Logansport Memorial Hospital will open a new medical center in Peru next week.
The new Peru Medical Center at 1694 W. Logansport Road, a building the hospital is leasing, is slated to to open Feb. 10. Its staff will include primary care doctors and specialists, according to LMH vice president of operations Jim Schrader.
This month, it starts with primary care, internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology and orthopedic services.
Dr. Agnes Kenny, a family doctor, and family nurse practitioner Jo Estes will staff the clinic five days a week. Dr. Vivek Sahgal, a specialist in infectious diseases and internal medicine, will also practice at the clinic.
Kenny and Estes are already familiar with the Peru area, Schrader said. They both practiced there and Kenny still lives in the town.
Hospital administration decided to open a clinic there to aid expansion in its Miami and Carroll county markets, Schrader added — and with 5,500 LMH patients already in Miami County, Peru was an easy decision.
The clinic, with its 6,000 square feet, includes 12 exam rooms.
Christopher Hogg, the newest board-certified orthopedic surgeon to join the Logansport Memorial Physician Network, will have office hours at the Peru Medical Center one day a week, as well. Physicians from the LMPN Women’s Health Center office will see patients one day per week in and the clinic will offer on-site laboratory and x-ray services.
The hospital is in the process of recruiting an additional OB/GYN specialist for the Peru clinic and plans to add other specialists in the future as well, Schrader said.
The clinic will be open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays. Beginning Feb. 10, patients may call the clinic directly at 765-472-2812.
DOLLAR GENERAL OPENING
The new Dollar General store at 603 E. Main St. may open as soon as two weeks from now, according to a company spokeswoman.
Construction stayed on schedule after it began in the fall, public relations manager Crystal Ghassemi said, and the company is shooting for a soft opening in mid-to-late February.
The store’s grand opening will take place March 1, Ghassemi said. The company is hiring for the store now.
At this point, staff are working on positioning merchandise displays and filling them with items to sell, she said. It’s expected to be similar to the other two Dollar General stores in Logansport.
Staffing will include three full-time permanent positions and anywhere from three to seven part-time positions, depending on the time of year.
Once it’s open, the store will have hours from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week.
