BIZ BUZZ: Cass Co. seasonal food stands opening

Orthopedic surgeon joins Memorial Hospital.

Several of Cass County’s seasonal food and ice cream stands are opening for business this month.

B&K West was the first to open, braving chilly temperatures Feb. 6. Char-Bett Drive-In and Sycamore Drive-In quickly followed, opening last Thursday.

Selvio’s B-K East in Logansport and Bob-O-Link Drive-In in Royal Center are both slated to open Thursday.

Melonie Smith, owner of Scoops Ice Cream, plans to reopen the stand during the first week of March. She said last year’s addition of Broaster Chicken was popular. “It was a huge thing for me to bite off, but it went really well,” she said.

The Walton Freeze will reopen in mid-April as usual, according to owner Julee Chambers.

NEW DOC JOINS LMH

A third orthopedic surgeon is joining Logansport Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Christopher Hogg, whose clinical interests include sports, arthroscopy, joins, fractures, shoulders and hands, has become part of Logansport Memorial Physician Network Orthopedics along with Dr. Jim Davis and Dr. Jeryl Fullen.

Hogg graduated from the Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at Midwestern University in Chicago. He has also completed a fellowship in adult reconstruction at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio, and another in orthopedic and sports medicine at the University of Cincinnati in Cincinnati, Ohio.

He is board-certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Orthopedic Surgeons.

Hogg’s practice is located inside the orthopedics suite at Logansport Memorial Hospital, 1101 Michigan Ave. Office staff may be reached at 574-722-2663.

TAX SEASON UNDERWAY

As local residents begin filing their taxes and anticipating refunds, the Indiana Department of Revenue advised paying particular attention to your documents if you choose to file a paper return.

Last year, 78.8 percent of Indiana filers used some type of electronic filing. Of those returns filed, 98 percent were accurate, resulting in faster refunds. But nearly 20 percent of paper-filed returns were inaccurate or had mistakes.
