Rouser joins Peak Community Services

Lita Rouser has joined Peak Community Services as community relations associate.

In this position she will facilitate enrollment into group homes, employment, family and community services.

Rouser has a bachelor’s in psychology and has spent 18 years in the human service industry. Her background includes marketing, public relations and business development.

She lives in Cass County with jer husband, Rick, and daughters Erika and Audrey.

Crop production seminar looks ahead

WEST LAFAYETTE— Kentuckiana Crop Production Seminar for farmers and crop consultants on the 2010 growing season is scheduled for Dec. 1 and 2 in Evansville.

The seminar is divided into four workshops, each targeting a different part of crop production and offering continuing education units and continuing credit hours.

The workshops include speakers from Purdue, University of Kentucky, University of Illinois, The Ohio State University, Indiana Natural Resource Conservation Service and the Environmental Protection Agency.

Workshop A focuses on corn and soybeans. Workshop B focuses on ear development in corn and soil management. Workshop C focuses on fertilization. Workshop D focuses on environmental concerns with agriculture.

Applications for scholarship available

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The NFIB Young Entrepreneur Foundation is currently accepting applications for the 2010 Young Entrepreneur Awards. High-school seniors with a flare for entrepreneurship are encouraged to apply online for a chance to win a scholarship valued from $1,000 to $10,000.

The eighth annual awards program for high-school seniors is designed to promote and encourage entrepreneurship endeavors among teenagers in America.

Award recipients attend the school of their choice for $1,000 to $10,000 in tuition assistance from the foundation. One student will be named the 2010 Young Entrepreneur of the Year and will be awarded a total scholarship award of $10,000.

Vegetable meeting provides insight

WEST LAFAYETTE — Commercial vegetable producers can learn about the latest technology and pest management issues at the 2009 Purdue Vegetable Growers Meeting Wednesday at the Fulton County Fairgrounds, 1009 W. Third St., Rochester.

The meeting will have five educational sessions. Speakers include:

• Dan Egel, Purdue Extension plant pathologist, reviewing the 2009 growing season and the impact of late blight on the tomato crop.

• Rick Foster, Purdue Extension vegetable and fruit crops entomologist, talking about western bean cutworm and the impact of high tunnels.

• Liz Maynard, Purdue Extension regional vegetable specialist, discussing new nutrient meters that can detect nitrogen rates on tomato plants.

• Fred Whitford, Purdue pesticide program coordinator, speaking about the importance of properly tying loads down when transporting produce.

• Mark Kepler, Purdue Extension educator in Fulton County, discussing private pesticide applicator credits available to participants for $10. Participants interested in credits should bring their current license with them.
