Terry named resource development director
INDIANAPOLIS — Lisa Terry, a native of Logansport, has been named the new director of resource development at the Damien Center, a facility in Indianapolis that specializes in the care of HIV/AIDS patients.
Terry served as a board member for the Cass County Community Foundation in Logansport before being hired as the first full-time executive director of the Northern Indiana Community Foundation.
Under Terry’s direction, the Northern Indiana Community Foundation grew to over $20 million in assets.
Terry has over 30 years fundraising experience. She was also awarded the Sagamore of the Wabash by Gov. Joe Kernan. She served as the chief executive officer of the Brown County Community Foundation from 2005 until March 2008, and currently serves as a board member for the Brown County Art Guild.
Upon returning to Logansport in 1993, Terry served as the first female parks administrator for the city of Logansport. She served as the executive director of Junior Civic Theatre and she participated in many adult Civic Players productions in various lead roles.
Carlos joins staff at Memorial Hospital
Dr. Jennifer Muehlhausen Carlos, a Logansport High School graduate and internal medicine physician, has joined the staff at Logansport Memorial Hospital.
Carlos, daughter of Jim and Sally Muehlhausen, received her medical degree at Indiana University and completed her residency at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. She will practice part-time in Logansport while her husband, Graham, completes a Pulmonary Fellowship in Indianapolis.
Berkshire attends national meeting
WINAMAC — Cara Berkshire, life skills instructor for Peak Community Services, attended the 2008 National Self Advocates Becoming Empowered meeting.
SABE’s mission is to ensure people with disabilities are treated as equals and are given the same decisions, choices, rights, responsibilities and chances to speak up to empower themselves.
Berkshire will develop a self-advocates organization in Pulaski County. The new organization will work with the group already in existence in Cass County.
Anyone is welcome to join as a supporting or sustaining member, but only members with developmental disabilities will have the ability to cast votes or make decisions for the organization.

Director of nursing home wins award
ROCHESTER — Life Care Centers of America honored Gregg Fuller, the executive director at Life Care Center of Rochester, with its Heartland Division President’s Award on Sept. 8.
Fuller received one of two awards for the Heartland Division, presented for distinguished service in the long-term health care management role.
Fuller has been with Life Care since 2004. In addition to his duties as executive director, he is a certified nursing assistant and often answers call lights, delivers food trays and performs other aide jobs.
Fourteen awards are presented annually to leaders of facilities or organizations within Life Care. Candidates must have at least two years of service with Life Care, adhere to the company’s mission and values statement and maintain successful financial performance.
Crook recognized for customer service
Kevin J. Crook, an American Family Insurance agent in Logansport, has been recognized for customer satisfaction excellence under the J.D. Power and Associates Distinguished Insurance Agency Program.
Crook has been an agent for American Family since August 1998. His office is located at 214 S. Sixth St.
The distinction was determined through a two-part evaluation process conducted by J.D. Power and Associates that includes input from customer satisfaction surveys.
Agents must also pass a rigorous on-site evaluation based on five best practice areas: proactive reviews of customer insurance needs, claims handling, positive customer contacts, responsiveness and office environment.
Price, Shepler receive recognition
Drs. Herb Price and Kathy Shepler recently received national recognition in an article in “Vision Monday.”
Their office was selected as a result of 37 years of providing patients with the prescription eyewear.
The article discussed the current economic environment and the affect on the optical industry in this country. Price and Shepler also implemented the “Value Eyewear Program” to provide prescription lenses to those without vision insurance.
Seminar offered for business owners
KOKOMO — The Hoosier Heartland Small Business Development Center will present the seminar Funding Options for Small Business from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sept. 23 at the Inventrek Technology Park, located at 700 E. Firmin St., Kokomo.
Topics covered in the seminar will be information on SBA loans, cash flow statements, components in writing a business plan and commercial lending information. A representative from SCORE will be present as well as a local lender. The lender will be presenting information on what a bank needs from a loan applicant and how lenders fit into the SBA loan process.
