Developers will soon break ground on a new 4,400 head dairy operation.
The groundbreaking ceremony for the future Boerman-Carroll Dairy, which is owned by the Garrit Arendsen family, will take place at 11 a.m. July 29 at the future site, a quarter mile east of Ind. 75 on 600S, near Cutler.
The permitting process for the dairy wrapped up by last October, but the groundbreaking took a while to coordinate
“Its a large project,” said Daryl Smith, executive director of Carroll County Economic Development Corporation. “It’s taken longer to get going then we wanted.”
Representatives from the offices of Indiana’s lieutenant governor, Indiana Department of Agriculture, Indiana Department of Environmental Management and American Dairy Association of Indiana will be among those present at the groundbreaking.
Smith said the family hopes the dairy to open by early summer 2009.
“I think it will be good because people will be able to see what it is like,” Smith said.
The Boerman-Carroll Dairy is one of three dairy farms expected to move in Carroll County. The other two, Pasman’s Pleasant Dairy, planned near 700N and 975W, and Optima Dairy Farm, planned for 1000N and 300E, are still in legal stages, said Smith.
Dutch-based Vreba Hoff Dairy Development LLC is in charge of development for all three.
Miles and Finch moves
Though minor renovations are still being completed, Miles and Finch Insurance moved its office to 29 S. Third St. on July 1.
Previously located at 307 S. Fifth St., account executive Pam Leeman said the move had taken longer than first expected because of renovations.
Leeman said the company is excited about the move, which will offer more space and the ability to hire additional people.
The phone number will remain (574) 722- 4292.
Upgrades for vacant building
Jeffersonhill Auction House Inc. will soon move into the former Nelson Screw building.
Located at 1830 Erie Ave. the building will receive at least $50,000 worth of interior renovations and a sprinkler system installation.
The section of Erie Avenue located in front of the building will be shut down for several days to install the sprinkler system.
