Tortas Oscar, a new Mexican-style restaurant, opened in Galveston two weeks ago.
Located at 201 S. California St., owner Jorge Zimbron said the restaurant offers a variety of unique foods including a quezi-dog and several other types of Mexican-style sandwiches, such as a sincronizada.
Dessert is also available, including a variety of fruit cocktails. All of the drinks are made with fresh fruit daily.
The restaurant offers both eat-in and carry-out options.
Zimbron said he felt it was time to open an establishment for the business his family has been perfecting for the past 30 years in Mexico City, Mexico. The restaurant’s name was also inspired by his younger brother, Oscar.
A resident of Kokomo for the past 12 years, Zimbron said he felt the location is perfect because of all the traffic going to and from Kokomo.
Business hours are from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.
The restaurant can be reached at (574) 699-0140.
Hours change for vendors
Cass County Recycle is changing its hours for the vendor picking up salvage automobiles.
The vendor, which is based south of Indianapolis and makes two trips daily to pick up salvage automobiles, was previously arriving in town at 6:30 a.m. and parking on the street until the salvage yard opened at 8 a.m. explained company representative Douglas Cox. That caused traffic problems which led Cass County Recycle to make the change.
The salvage yard will remain open for regular business from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Local company helps with restoration
Cannon Salvage Inc. assisted in the wood reclamation efforts for the historic Brown’s Grand Opera House and Theater in downtown Lebanon.
Joe Cannon, vice president of Cannon Salvage, said the company hoped to preserve and reuse as much of the wood from the building as possible. He said the wood from the theater would be reused in other projects to create flooring, siding, timber work and fireplace mantels.
