A local travel agency will soon have a new home and a new approach towards customers.
After 16 years in business, Emery Travel plans to move into its new office Aug. 1.
“I’m not closing,” owner Kim Emery said. “It’s just a change of location. That’s the way I’m looking at it.”
Emery is moving her business from 606 E. Broadway into a home-based office. The business will be located at 3528 E. 75N, east on Perrysburg Road in Logansport.
“Seventy percent of my business is done on the Internet or by telephone, so I don’t think it is necessary to operate an office front,” Emery said. “I’ve had a lot of great feedback from clients. Everyone has been supportive of the move and it has just been a trend of the travel industry as well.”
Emery said the move is something she has considered the last four years.
“It’s been in my heart a long time,” she said. “The opportunity is here. I also taught home-based travel classes in Kokomo.”
The classes helped prepare Emery for the move, including the legal aspects. She decided on Aug. 1 as the date to allow advance notice for the building’s landlord.
Emery will continue serving customers face to face from her home office, in addition to traveling appointments. Her idea is to set up appointments with customers and meet them at their convenience with a lap-top computer. The business will continue to keep its current employees once it moves.
“I hope it makes it more convenient for the customer,” she said. “It’s sort of old fashioned, but a modern type of thing as far as customer service goes.”
Moving into a home office will be more relaxing, according to Emery.
Emery is also grateful for all the support she has received from many of her customers and their loyalty.
The business will be open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and by appointment. To contact the business, call (574) 722-2805.
