Steinberger earns safety award
Steinberger Construction, Inc. was honored with a Metro Indianapolis Council for Construction Safety (MICCS) Safety Leader Award for outstanding efforts in reducing accidents and injuries in the construction industry.
The awards were given at MICCS’ annual banquet on April 17.
Eight Indiana companies were recognized as best in class in their category, including Steinberger Construction for a General Contractor Under 300,000 Man Hours.
Steinberger Construction was recognized for its safety record and innovative events like the annual Super Safety Training Day.
Indiana Farm Bureau hires new agent
INDIANAPOLIS — Kevin Renie has joined Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance as an agent based in the Rochester office, located at 230 E. Ninth St.
A graduate of Kokomo High School, Renie received his bachelor’s degree in education from Purdue University. He has completed Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance’s professional insurance training program.
Renie lives in Rochester with his wife, Abigail, and their two children, Reece and Davis.
Indiana State Police promotes trooper
Indiana State Police superintendent Paul E. Whitesell recently announced the promotion of Trooper Stephanie Thompson to sergeant assigned to the laboratory division as a crime scene investigator.
The Lafayette Post covers Benton, Warren, Fountain, Montgomery, Clinton, Carroll, White and Tippecanoe counties.
Thompson, a 10-year veteran of the department, began her career in 1998 at the Lafayette District where she worked as a trooper in White and Carroll Counties. Thompson was re-assigned to criminal investigations in 2005 and later to governor’s security in 2007.
Thompson graduated from South Ripley High School in 1992 and graduated from Indiana State University with a bachelor’s degree in criminology.
In her new position, Thompson will be responsible for collecting and documenting evidence at crime scenes, securing the chain of evidence and releasing evidence and found property.
The Andersons buys fertilizer company
MAUMEE, Ohio — The Andersons, Inc. announced it has acquired Douglass Fertilizer and Chemical, Inc. as an addition to its plant nutrient group.
Douglass Fertilizer, based in Maitland, Fla., is primarily a specialty liquid nutrient manufacturer, retailer and wholesaler serving a variety of agricultural, and to a lesser degree, industrial and turf markets primarily in Florida, the southeast U.S. and the Caribbean.
The Andersons, Inc. is a diversified company with interests in the grain, ethanol and plant nutrient sectors of U.S. agriculture, as well as in railcar leasing and repair, turf products production, and general merchandise retailing.

Logansport Financial Corp. reports earnings
Logansport Financial Corp., parent company of Logansport Savings Bank, reported net earnings of $538,000 or $.62 per diluted share for the quarter ending March 31. The report is compared to earnings in 2007 of $175,000 or $.20 per diluted share.
Total loans increased $1.5 million in the first quarter of 2008 compared to Dec. 31, 2007, and deposits increased by $1.9 million. Total assets as of March 31, were $158.7 million. Net interest income increased from $858,000 in the first quarter of 2007 to $1,047,000 during the first quarter of 2008. No provision for loan losses was needed in the first quarter of 2008 compared to a provision for $150,000 taken in the first quarter of 2007.
