Probationary troopers issued police cars
PERU — Members of the 68th Indiana State Police Recruit Academy, Probationary Troopers Cicely Gasvoda, Josh Maller and Todd Trottier, were recently issued their patrol cars. All three graduated Dec. 21, 2007.
The new troopers received approximately 840 hours of structured training in law enforcement techniques. The curriculum included 80 hours of criminal law instruction, 50 hours of emergency vehicle operations training, 30 hours of psychology, and 40 hours of “Survival Spanish.” They also developed skills in criminal investigation, vehicle crash investigation, self-defense, firearms and impaired driver detection and apprehension.
Gasvoda is a native of Van Wert, Ohio, and 1995 graduate of Van Wert High School. Gasvoda will patrol primarily in Wabash County.
Maller is a 2000 graduate of Southwood High School. Trottier is a 1994 graduate of Culver Community High School. Both will patrol primarily in Miami County.
Federal Mogul honorsLogansport facility
Federal Mogul’s Logansport fuel system manufacturing facility recently received a 2007 Safety and Lean Enterprise Award from the company at its global leadership conference in Detroit, Mich.
The award was based on safety performance, scrap improvement, productivity improvement and inventory reduction. Plant manager Brad Angle accepted the award, presented by president and CEO José Maria Alapont and Eric McAlexander, senior vice president of customer satisfaction and global manufacturing.
Federal Mogul’s manufacturing plant produces electrical and mechanical fuel pumps, and along with its technical center in Logansport, employs more than 375 people.

Advanced orthopedic care offered in Peru
PERU — Dukes Memorial Hospital is teaming up with five orthopedic physicians from Marion to provide coverage for Dukes Memorial Hospital.
Dr. Wm. Michael Roper graduated from Indiana University School of Medicine in 1987 and has been practicing in Grant County for 13 years.
Dr. Robert Jackson graduated from Taylor University with a bachelor’s in biology in 1983 and received his medical degree from Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1987.
Dr. Charles Kershner is a long-time resident of Grant County. He graduated form Indiana University School of Medicine in 1962 and has been in practice for 40 years.
Dr. Salil Rajmaira is currently an attending Orthopedic Surgeon at Marion General Hospital specializing in joints. He graduated from Northwestern in 1979 and from Rush Medical College in 1983.
Dr. Daniel Edwards is currently an attending Orthopedic Surgeon at Marion General Hospital. He is a graduate of Ball State and Indiana University Medical School. He has been in practice in Marion since 1986.
Office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday in Suite 106 of the professional building at Dukes Memorial Hospital. These physicians will also be on-call seven days a week.

Kirk celebrating 18th year as financial rep
FORT WAYNE — Thomas A. Kirk will celebrate his 18th anniversary as a financial representative of Northwestern Mutual Financial Network in Peru.
Kirk, who joined Northwestern Mutual in May 1990, is a certified public accountant and a chartered life underwriter. A qualifying and provisional member of the Million Dollar Round Table, Kirk has earned multiple company recognitions and was recognized as the most valuable producer with investment honors.
A native of Peru, he received his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Indiana University at Bloomington. He and his wife, Elizabeth, live in Peru where he is an active member of the Society of Financial Service Professionals.
Financial advisor hosts seminar
Edward Jones financial advisor Dee Wenk, of Logansport, will host an educational seminar titled, “Company Plan Distribution Options” at 5:30 p.m. on May 6 in Walton and Tipton Twp. Public Library.
The seminar is designed to help participants focus on retirement goals, evaluate their options, review tax consequences and consider the potential benefits of an individual retirement account.

Juvenile facility announces promotions
The Logansport Juvenile Correctional Facility has promoted two staff members to key roles within the facility.
As the community services director III, Smith will be responsible for coordinating the facility’s community involvement, including providing student services for the community. He will also be responsible for recruiting volunteers from the community to assist in providing religious services and mentoring the student population along with donation allocations.

As a correctional captain, Blackburn will be responsible for the day to day operation of the facility, including overseeing the safety and security of the public, staff and offenders. Blackburn will also be working with area emergency personnel to implement and maintain emergency security policy and procedures.
Blackburn began his career in corrections as a correctional officer in 1994.
