UPDATE: Worthington suspends campaign, does not ask for expedited process on drug charges

by Caitlin Huston

Kerry Worthington, 52, Logansport, is suspending his campaign for state representative, Democrat County Chairman Paul Ulerich confirmed this afternoon.

Worthington, who appeared in Cass County Superior Court II this morning, was the Democratic nominee for the District 23 seat in the state House of Representatives. He will appear in court again Nov. 5 to face cocaine dealing charges.

Worthington appeared in court with his lawyer Jim Brugh for his initial hearing. Worthington was arrested last week on a warrant for an incident in March where he is accused of selling an undercover cop cocaine, a class B felony, from his business, Worly’s Tavern.

Brugh said that he does not want to expedite the court process for his client. Worthington’s jury trial is currently scheduled for Jan. 9, 2013.
