---- — A one-vehicle crash resulted in an arrest and property damage to the Logansport Public Library around 8:48 p.m. Tuesday night.

A vehicle driven by Paul K. Lambert, 45, Logansport, ran off the road and caused damage in the front of the Logansport Public Library, 616 E. Broadway, according to the police report about the incident.

The black 1989 Jeep Cherokee driven by Lambert struck a parked vehicle, tree and a light pole. The light pole and tree were along the street in front of the library.

The vehicle also struck a limestone wall, another light and a railing near the entrance of the library. The limestone wall and light are both 1940s remnants.

David Ivey, director of the Logansport Public Library, said the important thing was no one was injured.

“With 1,000 people visiting the library a day, we’re lucky no one was hurt,” Ivey said.

Lambert was then arrested on a charge of driving while suspended/prior, a class A misdemeanor.

Sergeant Adam Morrow with the Logansport Police Department and other LPD officers were dispatched to the scene. The vehicle was facing north and partially on the sidewalk and patio in front of the library, police reports said.

Rural/Metro, the county’s ambulance service, was dispatched to the scene when Lambert complained of rib pain. Lambert was evaluated by EMS but refused further treatment.

Police reports indicate Lambert told police officers he must have blacked out because he only remembered air bags deploying and the vehicle crashing.

There were no signs of drug or alcohol impairment, police reports said.

Ivey said the library is working with insurance companies and contractors to see what can be done to fix the damage.

“It’s not going to impact the library, we’re just not sure when we’ll be able to reconstruct the area,” Ivey said.

The damage has not affected the library operationally. Hours at the library will remain the same.
