---- — INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Police say two highway workers removing traffic restrictions after overnight paving were killed when a pickup truck crashed into them along Interstate 69 on the northeast side of Indianapolis.

The crash happened about 6 a.m. Friday in the southbound lanes of the highway a couple miles north of I-465. The crash caused traffic to back up more than a mile in the heavily traveled suburban area.

State police Sgt. Sgt. Rich Myers says the two workers for a contractor were almost done removing cones from the roadway when the truck ran into an arrow board that hit them. He says the pickup driver was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

Myers says it wasn't immediately clear what led to the crash or how fast the truck was going.
