MONTICELLO — A 16-year-old White County juvenile is being detained in connection with the armed robbery that occurred at the Lakes Federal Credit Union on May 2, according to a press release from the Monticello Police Department.
The Monticello Police Department issued a press release late last week stating a man armed with a handgun and wearing a dark-colored ski mask and sweatshirt entered the Lakes Federal Credit Union on Rickey Road and demanded money.
The suspect left the credit union with an undetermined amount of cash and had last been seen in a green car heading east on Rickey Road, the release went on to state.
The police department states the investigation into the robbery led to the execution of a search warrant at a White County residence, where a large sum of money was recovered along with other items believed to be connected to the robbery.
The press release states the White County Sheriff’s Department, Indiana State Police and White County Prosecutor’s Office are assisting with the investigation.
Monticello Police Chief Randy Soliday and White County Prosecutor Robert Guy did not immediately return calls requesting further comment Thursday. White County Sheriff Pat Shafer deferred comment to the Monticello Police Department.
Citing that the investigation is ongoing, Alicia Pifer, manager of the Lakes Federal Credit Union on Rickey Road, deferred comment to the Monticello Police Department as well.
“Because it’s still under investigation, what the police have reported is all we can say,” Pifer said. “Everyone is doing fine. It was an experience we wish we never had to experience.”
