BURLINGTON — A crash Thursday evening claimed the life of a Sharpsville man.
Around 5:20 p.m. Thursday, a vehicle driven by Zachary R. Butts, 35, was headed north on Ind. 29 near Carroll County Road 600 South near Burlington when the vehicle went left of center for an unknown reason and struck a southbound vehicle head on.
Butts was airlifted to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis where he later died of his injuries, a release from the Carroll County Sheriff's Office states.
A passenger in the vehicle, Audrey L. Thompson, 31, Sharpsville, was taken to St. Joseph Hospital in Kokomo and later airlifted to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, where she remained in critical condition this morning.
The cause of the wreck remains under investigation and drug and alcohol tests are pending.
The occupants of the southbound vehicle — driver Pee Lu Lay, 29, and passengers Ket Khine, 33, and Kyaw Htoo, 31, all of Indianapolis — were transported to St. Joseph Hospital in Kokomo for non-life-threatening injuries.
