Logansport woman victim of fatal Carroll County crash

From Staff Reports

— Carroll County Sheriff’s deputies are not sure why a 27-year-old Logansport woman went left of center Saturday afternoon, causing her to collide with a northbound semi-tractor on Ind. 29.

Investigating Deputy Mike Thomas advised Sylvia Savoie was southbound, in a 1995 Jeep Wrangler sport utility vehicle. She was near Carrol County Road 700 North, Deer Creek, in Carroll County around 4:50 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

For reasons unknown, Savoie traveled left of center, head on, into the path of a 2013 Kenworth semi-tractor, being driven by Kevin Hale, 51, of Fort Wayne. Hale’s truck did not have an attached trailer and he was not hauling any cargo. Hale refused medical treatment on scene. Savoie was extricated from her vehicle by Camden/Jackson Township Fire Department and transported to Logansport Memorial Hospital by Carroll County EMS. Savoie was later flown to Fort Wayne Parkview Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 7:51 p.m.

Assisting Carroll County authorities included Deputy Jason Dunning, Reserve Deputy Mike Peters, and Major Tobe Leazenby. Also called on scene were Accident Reconstructionist/Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Deputy Rob Hainje for accident reconstruction purposes, Indiana State Police Motor Carrier Enforcement Trooper Larry C. Mote for inspection of Hale’s semi-tractor, and Indiana State Police Trooper Wesley Ennis. Carroll County and Tippecanoe County authorities, along with the Allen County Coroner’s Office, continue to investigate.
