LOGANSPORT — Mitch Figert, executive director at American Red Cross of North Central Indiana, announced a shelter has been created at the Logansport branch of the American Red Cross, 1200 W. Market, and should be open at 3 p.m. today.

The shelter was opened after Figert was contacted by Alvin Beckman, director of the Emergency Management Agency, and told they were asking people to evacuate some homes in Logansport.

People are encouraged to bring any medication they need, personal hygiene items, a pillow and blankets. Figert said they will have cots and extra blankets available.

The shelter will not accept pets and will be staffed for the next 24 hours. The shelter can fit 40 to 50 people comfortably. There are alternate locations if the number grows.

"A lot of what is going on is limited access to driveways, homes, not damage to homes," Figart said. "After 24 hours we will work with families to see what they need."
