MUNCIE (AP) — An eastern Indiana county treasurer may lose his office after a prosecutor filed charges alleging the theft of $80, official misconduct and 44 counts of not properly depositing public funds on time.
Delaware County Treasurer John Dorer surrendered Monday at the county's Justice Center in Muncie after prosecutors filed the charges in Delaware Circuit Court.
County Prosecutor Jeffrey Arnold said most of the counts allege Dorer was late in depositing public funds within one business day, as required by law. The lone theft count alleges he stole $80 in cash from the treasurer's office.
Arnold also has filed a civil lawsuit against Dorer requested by the Indiana State Board of Accounts that's aimed at removing Dorer from office.
