Suspicious activity leads to meth lab find

54-year-old arrested on drug charges

A meth lab was discovered early Tuesday morning on Riverside Drive by Logansport Police Department officers.

Thomas McGowan, 54, Logansport, was arrested on drug charges after suspicious activity led officers to a methamphetamine lab.

Around 7:30 p.m. Monday, officers were patrolling the 1000 block of Riverside Drive and noticed an extension cord running between two abandoned houses. Officers entered the unlocked front door and found a flashlight that was on and a heater plugged into the extension cord. No one was located at the time, the extension cord was removed and the residence was secured, according to police reports.

Officers patrolled the same area just before 1:30 a.m. Tuesday and located another extension cord running through the yard. Again, the door was unlocked and officers searched the residence. During the search, officers say they ound McGowan sitting on a bedroom floor in the abandoned residence.

Officers smelled a strong chemical odor associated with the production of meth and found products in the bedroom consistent with the manufacturing of meth, according to police.

McGowan was arrested on charges of manufacturing meth, possession of meth, possession of precursors, possession of paraphernalia, burglary, resisting law enforcement and a warrant out of Utah for two counts of theft.

McGowan is being held in the Cass County Jail on $5,000 bail.
