---- — PERU – Deputies say an intoxicated 44-year-old Peru woman bit a jail officer on the arm after he tried to stop her from tying her clothes and undergarments around her neck while being held in a padded cell at the Miami County Jail.

Mindy Childers was more than double the legal drinking limit when deputies pulled her over on U.S. 24 last week during a welfare check, according to court documents.

During a sobriety test, deputies said Childers attempted to run across the highway to escape and tried to resist arrest when she was apprehended again.

Once at the jail, deputies said Childers would cry and scream obscenities.

Deputies placed her in a padded cell, where they say Childers tried to tie her clothes and undergarments around her neck.

While attempting to restrain Childers, deputies said she tried to kick and punch officers and ended up biting a jail deputy on the arm, leaving a welted red mark.

Childers faces charges of battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting law enforcement and operating while intoxicated. She is currently being held at the jail on a $13,000 bail.
