More than a dozen candidates for positions ranging from the United States House of Representatives down to local school boards threw their hats into the ring in a late dash to meet the noon filing deadline on Friday.
Races for the District 2 Congressional seat as well as the District 18 State Senate position both boast a full slate of four Republicans.
John N. Frame filed Friday for the District 2 position and will challenge Luke Puckett, Joseph Roush and Tony Zirkle in the May 6 primary. The seat is currently held by Democrat Joe Donnelly.
David R. Martin threw his name in Thursday for the State Senate seat, which will be vacated at the end of the year by Republican Tom Weatherwax. He will challenge Randall Head, Phillip R. Messer and Brian Thomas for the Republican nomination. Logansport Deputy Mayor Linda Klinck was the lone Democrat to file for the seat.
For the State Representatives District 16 position, Democrat Bill Reutebuch and Republican Douglas L. Gutwein both filed this week. Each will run unopposed in the primary.
The Republican-heavy filings continued for at-large positions in the Cass County Council as Christopher Dixson added his name to a slate that already included seven others. Incumbents Ralph Anderson and Chod Gibson both announced their reelection bids early. Pat Badt, Jeff LeDonne, Cameron Mills, Ryan Elson and Jim Parsons have also filed. Voters can select three at-large candidates to challenge Democrats Julian Pugh and Gordon Southern in November’s general election.
Mark Hetz, a standing member of the Logansport Community School Board, filed this week for the 1st District position as did David McClure. Other late filing for school board positions were Shelley Gady, Pioneer 1st District, Gregory E. Lawson Pioneer 5th District, Mary Hartley, Southeastern 1st District, and Joyce E. Zartman, Caston 1st District.
Zartman and Lawson are both incumbents.
